Parents in Partnership - Parent Infant Network
Introduction
PIPPIN complements traditional approaches by putting emotions and relationships back into early parenting. PIPPIN provides services backed up by evidence based research, which shows that secure attachment to the main parents/care giver, which can be established in the early years of a child's life, will provide the necessary resilience to enable the child to cope with many adverse life events as an adult without developing adverse psychological or psychiatric symptoms. evidence points to the fact that rather than acting as a kind of "Magical marital glue" the relationships of many couples break down after the birth of a baby and that both new mothers and fathers are at risk of depression. There is also a growing realisation that children raised within families that are in conflict develop less successful bonds with their parent(s) and are charactised by emotional and social development that is less well developed than that of their peers in stable "happy" families. Men and women need help to enable them to respond to and cope with the issues and changes that arise in parenting and to recognise and develop listening skills and healthy ways of communicating with their partners and babies.
