Dreams
I have dreams I hope will come true,
and others that I I've given up on. Maybe I dreamt once
about living in a fabulous home with a swimming pool, or
having an partner who would love and adore me, or a life
filled with excitement, opportunity, and wonder.
There is nothing wrong with dreams.
They help me set goals, and touch a truth in my heart
that life is meant to bring happiness. Even when a dream
seems no longer reachable, I can set new goals, and draw
on the energy they give me. But maybe I've had my dreams
shattered in a relationship before, or I'm looking at the
one I have now, and feeling disappointed over dreams that
are slipping out of my grasp.
When I look at what I want however, I
find that almost all of my dreams center around one theme
- happiness. If my dreams can get shattered or lost,
maybe I am making my happiness depend on the wrong
things. Perhaps the route to happiness doesn't lie
in the direction I thought it did. Could it be that I
missed one of the sure routes - one called
acceptance and love, starting with accepting and loving
myself?
Just for Today
Today I'll stop looking for happiness
in things that may or may or may not come true, and start
searching for it in another direction - by loving
and accepting myself and others more. In doing this, the
dream of happiness and love can truly be mine - a little
bit more each day.
If you have built castles in the air, your work need not
be lost; that is where they should be. Now put the
foundations under them. - Henry David Thoreau
