When a Mother Leaves Work

Respect
Another emotional issue that women leaving work often face is the worry that they will lose respect. It is vital that a mother at home is given opportunities to keep her mind active. It is true that husbands work all day and deserve a chance to rest once at home. However, a woman who feels that looking after the house and children is not fulfilling enough must be given the time to pursue something that she either enjoys (such as taking a class, competing in sports, or doing something creative) or feels is spiritually rewarding, such as being involved in her church or community.
In our house, my husband helps the local Scouts on Fridays, while every weekend I devote time mentoring a teenager leaving foster care. A husband can really help boost his wife’s self-image by encouraging her to get out and do something creative or meaningful a few times each month. This prevents her from feeling housebound, which can cause depression to take root.
